2010 Elections for the Board of Directors

Elections Summary

Elections will be held in seven regions in 2010 to fill seven seats on the National Council Board of Directors.

  • Region 3: DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, WV
            • Susan Blue (PA) has served one term as a regional director and is eligible to run for re-election.
  • Region 4: AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN
            • There is no incumbent. David Ptaszek (KY) has served two terms as a regional director on the Board and therefore is ineligible for re-election. He will remain on the Board as the current Secretary/Treasurer.
  • Region 5: IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI
            • Don Miskowiec (IL) has served one term as a regional director and is eligible to run for re-election.
  • Region 6: AR, LA, NM, OK, TX
            • There is no incumbent. Pete Kennemer (AR) has served one term as a regional director but has chosen not to run for re-election.
  • Region 7: IA, KS, MO, NE
              • Pat Connell (NE) has served one term as a regional director and is eligible to run for re-election.
  • Region 9: CA, Guam, HI, NV
              • There is no incumbent. Mary Hargrave (CA) has served one term as a regional director but has chosen not to run for re-election.
  • Region 10: AK, ID, OR, WA
    • Steve Horn (AK) has served one term as a regional director and is eligible to run for re-election.

Electing Directors from Regions

Per the National Council bylaws and Board policies, Directors from regions are elected for a three-year term and may serve no more than two complete three-year terms in succession. (See Bylaws Article V, Section 2 for specific information on National Directors.) Directors from regions should be, but are not required to be, from different states in each respective region.

The twenty National Directors are elected directly by the voting members in each of the ten National Council regions. The Nominating Committee of the National Council Board will direct the process for electing Directors from regions, including communication with regional nominating committees. Directors from regions must be affiliated with a National Council voting member, and may be either a staff person, or a member of its Board. The regional nominating committee is to be comprised of one member from each state or territory with in the region (if possible). Factors for considering potential nominees for Directors from regions should include: the ability and desire of any nominee to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the Board of Directors and public policy and advocacy responsibilities for Directors as set forth by the Board Policies & Procedures.

Regional Nominating Committees

The (OD) "Other Director" in each region who is not up for re-election will be responsible for Chairing the Regional Nominating Committee in each region. Information will be forwarded to each "Other Director" as to what those responsibilities, primarily communicating with the Association Executives in each region and coordinating the search for candidates within each region. Assistance will be provided to each Regional Nominating Committee Chair by National Council staff.

Public Policy Committee Chairperson

The Public Policy Committee is composed of the Executives of all member Associations, in addition to all Board members. The Chairperson is elected by the Committee at the spring meeting of the National Council Board of Directors, and serves as a Director to the full Board for a two year term of office. Both Chair and Vice Chair may not serve more than two consecutive terms of office (two two-year terms). Election of the Chair will take place in the same year as the election of Officers to the Board. Election of the Vice Chair will take place in the off-year.

Election of the Public Policy Committee Chair will take place in 2011. Election of the Public Policy Vice Chair will take place in 2010.

Directors from Member Associations

The Assocation Executives Group is composed of the Executives of all member Associations. The Chair of the Association Executives Group is elected by all members of the Group and serves as a Director to the national Council Board. The second Director to the National Council Board is elected by the "100% Associations" only. Both Chair and 100% Association Representative may not serve more than two consecutive terms of office (two two-year terms). Election of the Chair will take place in the same year as the election of Officers to the Board. Election of the 100% Association Representative will take place in the off-year.

Election of the Association Executive Chair will take place in 2011. Election of the 100% Association Representative will take place in 2010.
